Congratulations to the Manitoba German Language Contest Winners from Crystal Springs School. Four students won awards at the 50th MGLC on Wednesday, Feb 28th. Hansel Kleinsasser (Gr 7) 3rd Junior B, Joel McAdams (Gr 8) 2nd Junior B. Kyle Boller (Gr 9) 3rd Intermediate B, Erin Kleinsasser (Gr 12) 3rd Senior B. We want to celebrate their success and offer a big thank you for all the hard work from the students, parents, and teachers that made this possible.

Once again, the Crystal Springs School High School Choir pulled off a wonderful performance at SCU. The annual tradition of schools performing Christmas music on AM1250 from the SCU Atrium continues to be a big part of the Christmas season calendar of events. The CS Choir enjoyed the opportunity to perform for a wider audience than usual, although, according to reports, many of their usual audience tuned into AM1250 at 10:15 especially to hear their students perform. Crystal Springs School High School Choir and Guitar Ensemble, along with a few violin students, spent an enjoyable evening entertaining the wonderful folks at Silver Courts Senior Residence in Niverville. This was an opportunity for students to practice their pieces in preparation for Monday’s Steinbach Credit Union performance for Sounds of the Season with AM1290. The performance was followed by an opportunity to spend time with the residents enjoying some cookies and drinks and chats.
Grade 8-12 students at Crystal Springs just concluded a grueling 2 1/2 month marathon, with two productions of an Anne of Green Gables Musical. The cast has been working on the songs since mid-February. Practices have been going for the last month on the drama side. It all culminated with a 2 hour performance on April 30th and May 3rd. Two students, a Grade 8 and a Grade 11,from Crystal Springs School are going head to head in the Over-13 category for Hockey Canada’s Design-A-Mask contest. The winning design will be worn by Hockey Canada’s goalie at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2019. You can vote at Hockey Canada’s Facebook page. Contest closes at midnight on Tuesday, November 27th. Let your voice be heard. Which one is the best?
Crystal Springs students had the wonderful opportunity to experience the Eastman Choir perform live in our gym this morning. The 41 person choir of Grade 9-12 students from communities across Eastern Manitoba performed for 45 minutes with a diverse repertoire. Tomorrow, 10 students from Crystal Springs will join the Eastman Choir and other student from numerous Hanover Schools in a Choral Workshop and end the day with a public performance.
Crystal Springs Soccer Team (Grades 6 – 11) won a five team tournament on Saturday, June 16th. The tournament was held at Silver Winds Colony near Sperling. Our team had a perfect record, going undefeated through round robin and elimination rounds. They scored a total of 8 goals and allowed none. Way to go! Special thanks to the coaches and the Crystal Springs youth group, who provided tough opponents to practice against in the weeks leading up to the tournament.
Music Teacher Ruth Bergen will be taking the Grade 6-11 choir to perform at a concert at the Mennonite Heritage Village on the evening of May 4th at 7pm. The event features the Winnipeg Singers, the SRSS Chamber Choir, and the Crystal Springs School Gr6-11 Choir. The theme is Accent on Youth: Young Canadian Talents.
Rusty, a long-eared owl, dropped by Crystal Springs for a morning visit to a couple of classrooms. The students were fascinated to experience a beautiful creature like Rusty up close and personal. The presentation included numerous artifacts like owl talons and wings that students were able to handle, as well as some owl pellets they got to dissect to learn more about the dietary habits of owls.
