Crystal Springs School had another highly successful year at the 23rd Annual Manitoba Robot Games. With 26 students entering 40 robots in 8 different categories, in a field of 204 robots registered, the Crystal Springs Robotics Team is one of the largest at the event. Grade 8-9 students presented to the HSD Board at the public board meeting on Dec 5th. The student presented some of the inquiry based and hands-on learning they have been doing studying optics. They demonstrated a Camera Obscura, and several simple box cameras they built, along with photos and contact prints they made using blue-print paper, as well as some of the small reflecting telescopes they had made. A Grade 10 student from Crystal Springs School placed 2nd in the Hockey Canada/Boston Pizza Design-A-Mask art contest. Unfortunately, we were not aware that there were actually three online polls where one could vote and so, while the did get enough supporters voting for to place first in the one poll we were aware of, the 1st place winner earner more votes at the others polls and took the prize. Great job for both students. Impressive artwork.
A Grade 10 student from Crystal Springs School is one of two finalists in the 13-18 Category of Boston Pizza / Hockey Canada’s Design-A-Mask for the the goalie of the 2019 World Juniors Team Canada Goalie. Once again we had a great time participating in the HBNI Cross Country Run. 39 staff and students joined approximately 300 runners from the HBNI group of Hutterite Colony schools in a 5K/10K cross-country run at the Bittersweet Trails Ski Trails near Rosendale, MB. It was a lovely, brisk day and everyone had a great and invigorating time.
A number of students from Crystal Springs School competed in the drawing contest held by Fish Futures to create the image that is found on the Youth Angler Card. There were several winners in both the Junior and Senior category, including the 1st Place Senior, which is the picture selected to appear on the 2017 Youth Angler Card. Congratulations to Liyah, Kelly, and Roman for your winning entries and to all the other students for your amazing efforts.
Welcome back to school on Wednesday, September 7th. Start training. It’s going to be a running start to the new school year. Terry Fox Run, Imagine Run, and HBNI 10K Run all happening in the first 6 weeks of school.
Parents and family are invited to join us for our Valentine’s Party this afternoon. Activities will start around 2:30 with snack (healthy and otherwise) served around 3:30. There will be some skipping competitions and a middle-grades basketball game.
