Grade 8-9 students presented to the HSD Board at the public board meeting on Dec 5th. The student presented some of the inquiry based and hands-on learning they have been doing studying optics. They demonstrated a Camera Obscura, and several simple box cameras they built, along with photos and contact prints they made using blue-print paper, as well as some of the small reflecting telescopes they had made. The students did a great job presenting, and their confidence reflected the skills they have learned as part of the Public Speaking classes they are taking this year. Keep up the terrific work.
A Grade 10 student from Crystal Springs School placed 2nd in the Hockey Canada/Boston Pizza Design-A-Mask art contest. Unfortunately, we were not aware that there were actually three online polls where one could vote and so, while the did get enough supporters voting for to place first in the one poll we were aware of, the 1st place winner earner more votes at the others polls and took the prize. Great job for both students. Impressive artwork.
A Grade 10 student from Crystal Springs School is one of two finalists in the 13-18 Category of Boston Pizza / Hockey Canada’s Design-A-Mask for the the goalie of the 2019 World Juniors Team Canada Goalie. You can join the excitement by voting in the Facebook poll. Facebook account required. The design on the left side in the Over 13 Category. It’s the obvious choice isn’t it.
Once again we had a great time participating in the HBNI Cross Country Run. 39 staff and students joined approximately 300 runners from the HBNI group of Hutterite Colony schools in a 5K/10K cross-country run at the Bittersweet Trails Ski Trails near Rosendale, MB. It was a lovely, brisk day and everyone had a great and invigorating time.
A number of students from Crystal Springs School competed in the drawing contest held by Fish Futures to create the image that is found on the Youth Angler Card. There were several winners in both the Junior and Senior category, including the 1st Place Senior, which is the picture selected to appear on the 2017 Youth Angler Card. Congratulations to Liyah, Kelly, and Roman for your winning entries and to all the other students for your amazing efforts.
